The Oasis is a design proposal for a landmark at Dubai Creek, UAE. The vertical oasis is a giant living sculpture.

Over 2km of spiralling walkways that twist around a pool. The Oasis is inspired by the Traditional Falaj irrigation systems, to supply and channel water. The park will promotes a healthy lifestyle and creates a lasting public legacy.

A modern interpretation of UAE’s historic and innovative Falaj waterways. In which a relatively small amount of water is carefully managed and channelled to sustain a large ecosystem. The Falaj is an inspiring piece of UAE’s history that represents Growth, Health, Self-sufficiency and Innovation.

The Oasis is made of spiralling pathways that weave and cross. The structure is coiled around a small pool. To create a courtyard garden, that is lush and green on the sheltered inside, while being bold and dynamic on the outside. The spirals are self-shading, meaning that the pathways will be shaded through most of the day.

Inclined outwards, doubling in width from 35m at its based to 70m wide at its peak, the height is 25m.

In total the spiralling pathways create over 2km of Oasis. Each is gently inclined to allow for safe Disabled access. Due to the crossing of each spiral there are hundreds of different ways to walk around the Oasis, the shortest walk to the top is approximately 300m.

It is for these principles the Oasis is created. Falaj channels gently cascade along the side of the spiralling pathways, flowing down into the pool at the centre of the oasis. As the Falaj primarily relies on gravity, the sloped pathways, will be neighboured by constant flowing water. Within the Oasis will be seating areas, to sit down and relax, surrounded by

This is a total sensory experience, a holistic phenomenological adventure. That will stimulate and relax. Visitors will explore the space as they climb, surrounded by flowers, Palms and planting, birds, insects and fish.

Guests will experience a sensory banquet. Accompanied by the sounds of bubbling water, as its flows through the oasis. The song of birds, and insects. The smells of flowers in bloom. The hot air will be cooled, as it is filtered through the dense greenery and over the moving water. The breeze will ‘sway’ the foliage, making the shadows and dappled light dance.

From the higher levels, visitors will have views out across the Dubai Oasis to the migrating flocks of flamingos.

The vertical oasis embodies the central mantra of the Dubai Creek. A modern, healthy, green, UAE. To provide a brighter future for its residents. The Oasis, is a perfect representation of this, a synthetic of Traditional UAE, with innovative technology. The oasis will be an educational tool, illustrating the 4000 years of UAE innovation. The spiralling face creates an iconic geometry, easily identifiable, and invoking the countries’ history of innovation. While the Calatrava tower will primary be sold on high-tech future, this is a counter point, this speaks to UAE’s past. This will be very effective in selling the vision of Dubai Creek. A space for living, a space of nature and innovation.
